Gather, Gathers, Gathering

Artist Nancy Cowan (Warungnu) first showed her work in the Murray Upper and Beyond exhibition at the Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre in 2009. Since then her work has been included in various exhibitions nationally. Nancy's ceramic work was also part of the artwork installation Bagu with Jiman, selected as a finalist in the 27th Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards.

Bigin (Shield) Bowl is an unique pottery design, specific to the Girringun Artist Collective. Inspired by the shape and form of the traditional rainforest shields (bigin) of the Girringun region these hand-made and individually painted ceramic bowls are highly collectible. Traditionally made from a light weight timber the shields were used in battle and painted in patterns which reflected tribal affiliations.
